The Weather Guy – There’s snow in sight!
Posted on 20 Jun, 2017 in Weather Forecast
First up: Hats off (and/or beanies) to the mountain team who have kept the runs in top shape over the past fortnight. We haven’t had a single snow system move through since opening day and we still have great conditions from the Cruiser to Friday Flat. The guns have been working overtime and the groomers are have been too.
These blue skies that we’ve been enjoying lately have been beautiful, but I’ll be honest, we are really itching for some weather to move over the mountains pretty soon. The good news is, this weekend is looking promising! No more casual shorts weather!
A series of fronts are due to move over southeastern Australia over the weekend, with snow showers expected to develop over the higher peaks late on Saturday evening and into Sunday. At first, snow flurries should fall to around 1600m in gusty northwesterly breezes before winds swing west/southwesterly and colder air moves in on Monday morning.
Monday should see light snow showers falling to around 1200m, dusting the mountain right to village level. At this stage, it looks as though we will receive around 10cm, maybe 15cm on the peaks – fingers crossed!
Winds will ease slightly during Monday and into Tuesday, but may still make it feel chilly as it funnels along the valley.
Looking further ahead, it looks like conditions will remain cool in the days following this system which means our mountain team can continue working their magic!
Until next time, have fun out there!
– Guy
