Fresh powder and champagne showers – what a pair. This week flew by, almost as fast as the G.H. Mumm Top to Bottom racers. If you blinked and missed some of the action, here’s a countdown of the week’s best…
At number 3…Fresh powder and bluebird magic to get the week started
The Blizzard of Oz wrapped up on Monday this week which brought a total of over 115cm of fresh snow, kicking off the week with some UNREAL powder days with some of the best skiing Thredbo has ever seen. With heavenly clear blue skies and gorgeous sun seeing us through Tuesday and Wednesday, we were absolutely spoilt for choice out there in such incredible conditions. Definitely one for the scrap book.
Coming in hot at number 2…the Top to Bottom race
On Saturday, 260 keen skiers and boarders braced the winds and poor visibility and headed out for the famous G.H. Mumm Top to Bottom race. With bib collection at 6am and first chair at 6.45am, competitors got the weekend off to an energetic start as they made their way up to the startline. Despite the wind, racers got out there in their lycra race suits and embraced the running start – clicking into their skis and boards and going full throttle from the top of Snowgums all the way down to the bottom of the Kosciuszko express where stoke levels were at an all-time high as the village packed in to cheer the racers across the line.
Number 1…Champagne showers and Apres action
If there’s one thing better than champagne showers…it’s G.H. Mumm Champagne showers, and the magnums didn’t stop flowing all weekend. Starting off early at the poolside party on Friday night before getting Saturday off to a cheeky start at the race-side G.H. Mumm Champagne Breakfast at Kareela Hutte, there was no shortage of choice on the Thredbo party scene. There’s nothing better than a back-to-back, which is exactly what the apres-lovers got this weekend with a second massive G.H. Mumm poolside apres party on Saturday night, where racers and supporters united in the love of winter to the tunes of rad DJs Jesse Porsche, KLP, Elizabeth Rose, MOZA and Commandeur… what a line-up.
Annnnddd that’s a wrap. Once again we’ve raced through another huge week of stoke, and if everything was too fast for you – don’t stress because we’ve got a packed few weeks coming up… find out all about it here.
