The Weather Guy – An Amazing End to August…
Posted on 22 Aug, 2017 in Weather Forecast
With barely a single cloud in the sky today, the Snowy Mountains were clearly visible from space in all their glory thanks to last week’s 60cm dump. This takes the total snowfall for August to a mighty 2m… what a month it’s been!

Following a spell of freezing conditions, the snow quality is as good as it’s been in years. Conditions are light and dry with kilometres of corduroy to carve up from top to bottom. Over the past five nights, minimum temperatures have averaged just -7 degrees, while today was the first time we saw the mercury get above 0 degrees in six days.
The cold temperatures are set to return as a couple of weak systems move over the Snowy Mountains during the next few days. These systems will draw more cold air up from the south giving the trails a nice little top up with a couple of centimetres overnight from Wednesday into Thursday to around 1200m and another dusting later on Saturday into Sunday.
It won’t be a huge amount, but these systems will keep temperatures nice and chilly, making sure the snow conditions are top notch while also giving our snow makers plenty of opportunities fire up the snowguns.
It’s looking like a great week to head to Thredbo and make the most of these beautiful conditions with light winds and plenty of sunshine to enjoy.
