The Weather Guy – The Blizzard of Oz 3 is Bearing Down
Posted on 2 Sep, 2017 in Weather Forecast
Don’t pack your fat skis or powder boards away just yet, because we are in for a week of consistent snowfalls with one of the biggest spring snow storms in years. Get ready for round three, the trilogy, the ‘Return of the Blizzard’.
Flurries will begin to fall on Sunday as temperatures drop, with a few centimetres collecting at around 1400m by the evening, but Monday is when things start to get really exciting.
Heavy snow falls are likely to persist throughout the Monday with atmospheric conditions ripe for fat flakes falling to around 1000m. Temperatures will drop even further on Tuesday as the snow continues to fall, with the potential to fall as low as 700m.
A disturbed westerly airflow will keep the snow coming on Wednesday, with three day totals expected to reach between 50-90cm. Some models (which performed quite well for the last Blizzard of Oz) are suggesting totals of 60-80cm on Monday and Tuesday alone!

Conditions will ease slightly on Thursday with only a few cents on the cards, before Mother Nature winds back up and sends another burst of snow our way on Friday and Saturday.
All up, there is a good chance we will reach the 1m+ mark by this time next week, which is an astonishing feat for spring and an epic set up for the remainder of the season!
This weeks natural snow depth came in at 189.5cm which is the best snow base we’ve seen in five years. With the potential for over a metre yet to come, this will be one to remember!
