February means the beginning of many changes in the alps as the height of summer has passed.
THREDBO TO MT KOSCIUSZKO
Some flowers are in the late stages of their prime, if you have a keen eye you’ll be sure to spot the following – Muellers Snow-Gentians have begun budding, Button Everlastings with bright orange flowers, Carpet Heath sprawling and Tadgells Leek-Orchid standing tall. If you are hiking through the cloud or after rainfall, be cautious as any moisture on the metal track makes it extremely slippery. Track work remains underway near Cootapatamba Lookout with small diversions in place.
RAMSHEAD RANGE
Thredbo guides will take you on the path less travelled to revel in grand views from North, Central and South Ramshead. Whether you choose a full-day hike or the half-day option you will need to be ready for an adventure. You will be lead scrambling across boulders, creek hopping and Brumby spotting all whilst being dwarfed by the ranges’ iconic granite tors. By taking a Thredbo guide you will discover new terrain and what vegetation to avoid and why.
FAUNA
If you were hiking during the intense rainfall last week you would have likely spotted Blue Planarians. These deep-blue worms grow to be 6cm long and are clever predators! After the rain they head above the ground and create trails behind them of viscous slime. This slime then traps small bugs, like millipedes, for them to eat.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them their cultures, and elders past, present and future.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
