Parking
Thredbo has a variety of car parks close to the village and mountain for both day visitors and overnight stays.
Friday Flat | Thredbo’s Main Car Parking Zone
For day parking, we recommend parking in the Friday Flat day car park, Thredbo’s main parking zone. To access Friday Flat parking simply enter the resort from Alpine Way and turn left at the first day parking/blue P4 sign on the left.
Reached the roundabout? There is minimal day parking beyond this point, only overnight parking.

- Day Visitors – To access Friday Flat day parking simply enter the resort from the Alpine Way and turn left at the first day parking/P4 blue sign via the slip lane off Friday Drive.
- Overnight Stays – We have free overnight designated parking areas (P1, P2, P3 & P4). Many chalets and apartments have on-site parking for guests.
- Shuttle Bus – a free shuttle bus operates from Friday Flat and the Thredbo Village (Route 3). Click here for more details.
- Camping Is Prohibited – Campervans, motorhomes and caravans are only permitted in designated camping areas within the Kosciuszko National Park. We recommend checking availability for Ngarigo and Thredbo Diggings campgrounds on Alpine Way, or caravan parks in Jindabyne.
Peak Period Availability
Arrive Early on Weekends, School Holidays & Peak Periods
During peak periods, there are likely to be delays and congestion with entering the resort.
On some some peak season days the car park may reach capacity.
We recommend you leave early and allow sufficient time when travelling to the resort, arriving an hour before the lifts open.
Parking At The Snow
Here are some parking tips if snowfall is predicted during your stay…
- It’s important you only park in marked parking areas and abide by the correct hours on display.
- If snowfalls are predicted during your stay, once arrived in Thredbo we recommend fitting your chains when you park. It’s easier to do this straight away, rather than once conditions deteriorate.
- Unless you’re parking for a short time, it’s a good idea to lift the wipers off your windscreen so they won’t stick to the glass.
Starting Your Car
- Warm your car’s engine for a few minutes before driving off.
- Clear all glass and mirrors of ice using a plastic ice scraper or something similar before you start driving. You can also use lukewarm water to clear ice but don’t use your windscreen washers – they’ll just make it worse.
- To demist the inside of the windows, use the car’s heater and fan as well as the air conditioner.
- If it has snowed during your stay, remember to clear ALL snow off your car before driving as it may hinder other drivers as it falls off on your way home.
Useful Car Accessories
There are a couple of essential items that will enhance your driving experience to the mountains.
- Plastic Scraper – For mornings with heavy frost and snow, we recommend a plastic scraper to remove ice from your windscreen. These can be purchased at a range of stores in the local area.
- First Aid Kit – We also recommend a first aid kit, and if you are travelling outside of service hours or entering from Thredbo from the south you may want to pack an emergency kit that includes a torch, blanket, tow rope, spade, wheel chocks.
