Girls conquer the MTB Park at Gravity Girls
Posted on 12 Jan, 2022 in Festivals & Events
Girls were the queens of Thredbo Mountain Bike Park over the weekend with over twenty-five female riders joining the second clinic of Gravity Girls on 9 January. The women’s only mountain bike clinic is designed to bring together the female riding community to help them progress their MTB riding skills in a supportive environment with other fun and encouraging riders.
The weather was perfect for the clinic – not too hot, not too cold – and the dirt was running smooth and fast. The day started off with each rider being grouped into one of the three experience levels, each focusing on the core skills of mountain biking including body position, cornering and braking and the more advanced riders learning the fundamentals of jumps and drops. The clinics are led by some of the best female mountain bike coaches in Australia.

Jo Larkin heads up the Gravity Girls program and has seen a significant increase in progression and overall empowerment in the women’s mountain scene in the past few years.
“It doesn’t matter what level of rider you are, it’s just about getting together in a really supportive environment. You just need your bike, a sense of adventure and a can-do way of thinking” said Jo Larkin.
Gravity Girls aims to continue supporting women in mountain biking as its popularity grows each season. Female riders of any age are encouraged to join Gravity Girls. Some gravity riding experience is required.
The next clinic is to be held on 27 February, followed by 20 March. To join in the fun and learn new skills, register here.
