Snowfall, Snowmaking & Grooming… It’s Been All Systems Go On The Mountain!

Mother Nature may have been a bit late to the party but with 18cm of fresh snow falling since last Tuesday, the mountain has now been transformed into a white winter playground!

In addition to the natural snowfall, the temperatures have well and truly plummeted over the past week, creating ideal conditions for our snowmaking operations to ramp up.

Thanks to the subzero temps, our snowmaking crew were able to fire up the guns on several nights throughout the week. Our biggest night of snowmaking was last Wednesday with a huge 173 snowguns firing for over 18 hours!

Did you know that conditions have to be just right for snowmaking? This incredible infrastructure requires water and air to be cold enough that when it is pumped out of the snow guns, it will turn to mist and then linger in the air for long enough that it will crystalise and turn into soft, white snow!

There is certainly an art to this intricate process and our snowmaking crew spend each night monitoring temperatures across the mountain to maximise efficiency.

Thanks to the recent snowfall and snowmaking, we were able to officially open the Easy Does It Chairlift on Saturday morning! In preparation, we had the grooming team working through the night on Friday to get Friday Flat in tip-top shape for skiers and snowboarders.

Across the weekend, beginners enjoyed hot lapping Friday Flat while nailing their first turns of the season.
