Marion - NPWS

Marion has been exploring and studying alpine environments for over 20 years. “I started my journey in the New Zealand Southern Alps while studying a postgraduate course in Alpine Botany. Since then, I have enjoyed working as a summer guide at Thredbo for seven seasons, a Discovery Ranger for NPWS for five years, and I am currently the Environment Management Officer for the Resorts Environment Services Team (NPWS). In my free time, I love getting outdoors and enjoying the unique environments of Kosi on a mountain bike, split board, or my trusty two feet. Understanding the unique flora and fauna of the Australian Alpine environments gives me a deep connection to the place I call home.”

Ruby - ANU

Ruby is a social scientist currently pursuing her PhD at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University. Her doctoral research focuses on how land managers can respond to ecological transformation in a changing climate, using a case study of snow gum decline due to dieback and bushfires in the Australian Alps.  Ruby’s research examines the social, cultural, ecological, and economic values of snow gums, how these values influence decision-making, and how possible management interventions will impact these values. In her work, Ruby explores concepts such as futures literacy, resilience thinking, and adaptation decision-making frameworks like the Resist-Accept-Direct (RAD) framework.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
