Tournament of the turns is back for 2016!
Posted on 27 Jul, 2016 in Festivals & Events
Attention all cool boarders are you ready to rip up the slopes of Thredbo with over 100 other like-minded boarders on the 13th and 14th of August?
The Transfer Banked Slalom is back again for 2016 and is going to be a day not to miss, filled with thrills, spills and chills. This event aims to embody the very essence of snowboarding. Back in 1985, Mt. Baker Washington held the first ever Banked Slalom and it has been an iconic snowboarding tradition every year since. I Feel the need… the need for speed!
This is the one event those guys over at the establishment will never be able to get their hands on, so leave the competitive hunger at home and replace it with an 80’s inspired après outfit and a big smile!
The course consists of berms, turns, jumps and bumps that every rider must manoeuvre down in order to cross the finish line. Gallina’s Gully is going to be your biggest enemy on the day due to the high steep walls and close out sections. If there is one tip we can offer you in order to get yourself across the finish line with a chance…wax that board.
But wait…the fun doesn’t stop at your last run on the course. On the Saturday night the Corona Concert Series is taking over the Village Sqaure for all contestants to celebrate and party into the night. The Jungle Giants from Queensland are locked in to headline and are a favourite of ours to see having played with bands like The Arcade Fire and being featured in the Triple J Hottest 100. Lime Cordiale and Paper Hearts are both supporting and will bring the beach vibes to the mountain with their stylish new-age tunes.
So what do you need to do now in order of priority to attend the Transfer Banked Slalom?

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
