Youth Development Tour With The North Face

A brand new backcountry tour designed to inspire the next generation of enthusiasts aged 15 to 18. Participants will receive mentorship, new experiences, upskilling opportunities and community connections while exploring the backcountry.
Backcountry & Snowshoe Rental
Explore the Main Range with our Backcountry Rental packages (pick up Valley Terminal only). Choose from Vokl touring skis with Mohair skins, a Burton splitboard with Montana skins or Tubbs snowshoes (all packages include collapsible poles). This package is available for rent with a Thredbo Backcountry Tour or if you have prior backcountry experience.

If you’re heading out to the backcountry independently, this pass gives you one return trip on the Kosciuszko Chairlift.
Please remember to fill out the online Trip Intention Form with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service before heading out.

Experience in carrying a daypack for short adventures, like bushwalking. | Confident and controlled on all blue runs, groomed and ungroomed. Can safely respond to changes of surface conditions and obstacles. Confident on T-Bars. | ||
Intermediate | Travel range 10km to 15km and vertical ascent 700m to 1000m. Previous backcountry experience with the ability to have controlled responses to changes in snow surface conditions. Comfortable carrying a backpack whilst touring all day. | Confident on black runs and ungroomed blue runs and can safely respond to changes in snow surface conditions. Comfortable both on and off-piste and T-Bars in resort. | ||
Advanced | Travel range within 15km to 20km and vertical ascent range 800m to 1200m. Multiple experiences touring and carrying a backpack down steep descents and climbs. Comfortable to explore technical and challenging terrain. | Ability to comfortably ski/board ‘double black’ terrain in resort and have controlled approaches to changes in snow surface conditions both on and off-piste. |
All Thredbo Backcountry Adventures conducted in Kosciuszko National Park are accredited with Ecotourism Australia at the Advanced Ecotourism level. This reinforces our commitment to using sustainable practices minimising climate change impacts from conducting these activities.
