Cannonball MTB Festival Day 2…
Posted on 11 Dec, 2016 in Festivals & Events
Competitors we’re greeted with perfect weather conditions for Day 2 of the Cannonball MTB Festival with nothing but blue skies and the right amount of tacky to send it at high speeds for the Maxxis Flow Motion Cup.
With biggest field of competitors yet, riders eagerly got out on the mountain early at 9am to get practice laps underway before the kick off of the event at 11:30. The Flow and Downhill trails we’re jam packed with novices, amateurs and pro’s all giving it their best at figuring out the fastest line to take in order to shave crucial seconds off their time.
With cloudless skies and warming temps throughout the day the Maxxis Flow Motion Cup got underway. The women hit the Flow trail first and took the definition of speed and control to a whole new level with local Tegan Molloy showing the boys a thing or two about riding the technical Flow trail.
The men’s race was a wide open field and a definite winner was hard to pick from with everyone flying through the course it was hard to tell who was who. High speed also means high consequence and there sure were a handful of some of the biggest bail’s we’ve seen so far this mountain biking season. Coming out on top in the end was Josh Carlson In the Pro mens category and Tegan Molloy in the Pro Womens.
The afternoon continued on with the crowd favourite event, the Sram Whip Wars, taking place on the bottom kicker of the Downhill trail. With DJ’s blasting tunes and a hill filled with the biggest crowd we’ve seen to date, the competitors knew they sure had to put on a spectacle in order to get both the judges and crowds pumped to take out this event.
The result was non-stop freestyle whipping mania for a full hour of the 40-foot table top, Conner Fearon ending up coming first, taking out the Sram Whip Wars event. However there were some definite contenders in the mix as well with Ryan Dawson sending it bigger than most of the pro’s and Ellie Smith and Ronga Hill being the only women to step it up to the insane whip off.
Stay tuned for all the action tomorrow…iIt’s the GoPro Australia Downhill event and we can’t wait for it!
