Checking in with Thredbo MTB
Posted on 25 Oct, 2016 in Festivals & Events
Thredbo is one of Australia’s premier mountain biking destinations and this summer it takes freeriding and cross country exploring and action to a whole new level and elevation…bring it on! With a new trail network and revamped existing tracks there is 25 kilometres of epic riding to enjoy in Thredbo this summer. From downhill, cross country, all-mountain and a BMX style pump track there is lots to love about riding in Thredbo this summer.
We caught up with Thredbo MTB Operations Manager, Daniel Taliana and Thredbo MTB Supervisor, Tim Windshuttle to talk about all things new and exciting for Thredbo MTB this season.
These are the guys who hope for the snow to melt not accumulate and have their eyes peeled for new dirt trails and rocks not open wide powder bowls.
What’s in stall for Thredbo MTB this summer? Anything new and exciting?
Preparation is going well for this season. We are super excited about the highly anticipated opening of the complete Thredbo All-Mountain Trail. It’s an unbelievable trail designed specifically for the new generation of all terrain mountain bikes…I can’t wait!
Rider Progression is high on the agenda here at the Thredbo Bike Park. For this reason we will be providing our guests with more comprehensive skills parks, catering for beginner through to advanced riders.
Every year we take a close look at all of our trails to see what can be improved and ensure our customers receive a second to none riding experience. Trail maintenance and creativeness will reach new levels this year with a welcomed expansion and a more knowledgeable trail crew.
Wow! Tell us more about the new trail? It’s the longest bike trail in Australia?? Awesome, so now we’ve got the longest ski and mountain bike runs in Australia…wooo!
Thredbo Bike Park will boast the longest chairlift access trail in the country with the opening of the upper All-Mountain trail. The beauty of this trail is its appeal to all levels of rider and the fact that it can be ridden on a smaller travel bike or even a sturdy hardtail.
There’s a some awesome and new events for this Summer…What are a few that are a must checkout?
There is of course the Cannonball MTB Festival, which I am proud to say has grown into the largest Gravity inspired event in the country. It’s a celebration of everything MTB and is a must for any rider. What we are stoked on this year is the introduction of the Thredbo Super Enduro. Riders will compete individually or in a team format with the challenge of racing all three gravity trails in a five hour period to be crowned the first Thredbo Super Enduro Champion.
Any advice for those looking to bike ride for the first time in Thredbo?
The best advice is to pop into the bike shop at Valley Terminal and let one of the Thredbo MTB crew steer you in the right direction. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions in relation to recommended trails, bike setup or anything else MTB. We’ll be super keen to help out.
Any advice to first timers?
I would definitely be encouraging first timers to have a chat with us and jump on to one of our beginner clinics or private lessons. Our qualified instructors will get you on the right track and make sure you get the most out of your day riding in the Thredbo Bike Park.
The 2016/17 MTB Season runs from 19 November to 1 May. The chairlift is open for mountain bikers from 9.30am-4pm and the retail/rental shop is open from 8.30am-5pm.
You can keep up to date with Thredbo MTB via their Facebook and Instagram pages.
See you on the trails!

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
