Celebrating National Tree Day
Posted on 29 Jul, 2017 in Activities
Today we’re celebrating National Tree Day alongside our good friends over at Toyota. Toyota and Planet Ark started National Tree Day in 1996 as a way to build a greater understanding of how people can help create a better environment for future generations.
Now in its 11th year, National Tree Day has grown to become Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care activity. Over the time, more than 22 million trees have been planted by almost 4 million volunteers at thousands of schools and local community sites.
Why is planting trees so important? Planting native trees and shrubs is a simple, effective and recognised way to help prevent soil enrichment, improve water quality and provide our native wildlife food and shelter. Trees also play a huge part in helping combat the greenhouse gas effect.
Thredbo since 2009 Thredbo has been in partnership with Greenfleet and in 2014 introduced a global first, a forestry carbon offset program for guests. Thredbo offer its guests the opportunity to purchase a tree for $4.00 when they buy their lift passes to offset their emissions for the journey from Sydney to Thredbo. Since the implementation in 2014, Thredbo have offset nearly 8,000 tonnes of carbon emissions by planting over 30,000 trees.
If your planning on visiting Thredbo this winter, please take into consideration the your carbon footprint and help reduce it by purchasing a tree!

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
