The Weather Guy – Amazing Spring Just Around the Corner
Posted on 28 Aug, 2017 in Weather Forecast
It’s been an awesome few days here at Thredbo with freezing conditions sticking out around, keeping the snow quality top notch after Sunday’s falls. Temperatures haven’t risen above 0 degrees since Saturday afternoon, so the cover is light, dry and super shreddable.
Spring is here and we can look forward to more of the same fair weather conditions with the long term outlook suggesting that September will be slightly drier and milder than average, leading to plenty of bluebird days filled with sunscreen and sunnies.
However, that’s not to say we won’t still see a few more cold snaps! A cold front is forecast to approach late on the weekend with showers expected to develop from Sunday afternoon, however the situation isn’t looking as bad as once thought.
While snow will be confined to the higher peaks at first, the freezing level will progressively drop to around 1400m throughout the evening.
This looks like the start of a great spring snow event with the potential for multiple snow days from early next week.
Monday should see heavy snow falling as low as 1000m, persisting throughout Tuesday with temperatures dropping even further. We should see between 25-50cm on Monday and Tuesday with the chance of more healthy snowfalls continuing on Wednesday, easing a touch into Thursday.
It’s a fair way out and weather models are still coming into agreement, but these are promising signs for some healthy spring snowfalls!
