The Weather Guy – #BlizzardOfOz2.0
Posted on 16 Aug, 2017 in Weather Forecast
Following a wild night of wind and rain that knocked the prop right off the wind stick at Thredbo Top Station, the showers have now turned to snow and it’s only going to cool down from this point forward.
Thursday is looking like the biggest day of the week with a cooling airmass and no shortage of moisture. Snow fall totals look to be in the 20-40cm range, with some models calling for in excess of 50cm within a 24 hour period. As conditions continue to cool down, we can expect snow to fall to around 1200m, with the best quality snow being found on the upper slopes.
Not only that, but gusty northwesterly winds will be scouring the elevated expanses of the Kosciuszko plateau of its stockpile and dropping it on the protected slopes Thredbo. This will contribute a huge amount to the snow pack, leaving epic wind stashes for us to sink our rails into.
The proper cold air looks to move over on Friday, with the snow level falling below 1000m with another 10cm or so expected to fall. It’s looking like a great day on the mountain, despite cloud, flurries and breezes still playing a part.
The tail end of the system looks to deliver a dusting to top it off on Saturday, with conditions remaining nice and chilly before the sun makes an appearance Sunday. It’s shaping up to be a stunner with the all signs pointing towards a pow day!
All up we’re looking at 30-60cm by the weekend, with some models suggesting even more. Get keen for the #BlizzardOfOz2.0!
