The Weather Guy – Will spring deliver the Blizzard of Oz 3.0…
Posted on 1 Sep, 2017 in Weather Forecast
The first day of spring has not disappointed with beautiful blue skies and light winds perfect for hitting the slopes, but there are murmurs of snow on the horizon and we need a touch more detail than what our trusty iPhone weather can give us.
A cold front is likely to move over the Snowy Mountains on Sunday causing a few showers in the afternoon, however conditions will quickly cool down allowing the snow level to drop to around 1400m by the evening.
Monday is the day when things start to get exciting with temperatures cold enough for snow to 1000 metres and flurries persisting throughout the day. Temperatures are set to drop even further on Tuesday with yet another day of relentless snow with temperatures maxing out at just -5 degrees.
At this stage, we’re expecting 25-50cm over these two days alone, with some models suggesting even higher totals… And that’s not the end of it…
Further healthy snow falls are expected into Wednesday, with the possibility of another few cents on Thursday and even into Friday… While there is still some disagreement between models as to how the scenario will play out late in the week, there is the outside chance of picking up another 10-20cm to top things off.
All up, a total of up to 70cm for the first week of spring isn’t too bad! This will set us up for an amazing spring, with the outlook suggesting plenty of dry, bluebird days for hitting the slopes.
