The Weather Guy – Something’s On the Horizon…

Well July is just around the corner, the part of the season where regular, reliable snow systems start to kick off. Luckily for us, it looks like we have a few good systems coming our way. Here’s a rundown on what we can expect over the next week. Fingers crossed the systems hold and deliver the good stuff.

This Friday:

A weak front is due to move over the region late on Thursday and into Friday morning, drawing cold air up from the south. With modest amounts of moisture, we can expect to a dusting of snow right down to the village, with a better system due early next week.

70% chance of 1-5cm this Friday.

Next Tuesday:

A second system looks to approach from the west on Monday, with snow levels progressively dropping throughout the day. At first, snow will be confined to the higher peaks, but as Monday turns into Tuesday temperatures will continue to drop and we hope to pick up 10-15cm of fresh cover.

60% chance of 10-15cm next Tuesday.

There are a couple features of this system which we like the look of, including more moisture, and the predominant west/northwest to west/southwesterly winds which favour the NSW Snowy Mountains. The days following this system also have the potential to back it up with frequent snow showers continuing.

All things going well, we should be looking forward to the first decent dump of the season!
