Introductory Backcountry Tour…Skills, Safety & Signatures
Posted on 11 Sep, 2018
Thanks to receiving over 220cm of snow this season, conditions are as good as they get in the backcountry! Spring is the perfect time for backcountry first timers to get out there and enjoy the experience…it’s a day for the books!
The introductory tour is the perfect tour to get started and learn all the fundamentals of touring in the backcountry, safety skills and how to use all the equipment. This isn’t your typical classroom style type of learning, it’s actually out in the field, out in the elements, gaining first hand experience in the unique Australian backcountry.
From using a beacon, shovel and probe to applying skins and learning about avalanche awareness, the introductory tour is a great first step for all novice backcountry enthusiasts!
Our guides are all top trained and have extensive knowledge of the Australian backcountry, especially Thredbo’s backyard…The Australian Main Range!
Not only do you learn all the skills but you’ll also get a taste at riding one of Australia’s most iconic backcountry lines…Signature Hill…a great run to warm you into the backcountry and get you ready for your next bigger and longer line!

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
