Cold Front & Snow Hits Thredbo…More Snow To Come!
Posted on 8 May, 2019
A cold front has swept across the Snowy Mountains bringing snow and strong winds and with another low pressure system building in the south, more snow is expected right through to the weekend.
Around 5cm’s of snow has blanketed the higher areas and with winds blowing snow around it is deeper in some areas.
Ben Domensino – Weatherzone Meteorologist says rug up as we are for a few more days of this wintry weather.
“Today’s dusting of snow was thanks to a cold front that passed over the Alps last night. This was the first in a pair of cold fronts in South Eastern Australia this week.
The next front will be stronger and reach Alps on Friday. Snow should fall down to about 1000m on Friday behind this front, bringing 5-10cm of fresh snow, possibly a bit more up top” he said.
It is also looking good for a run of snowmaking, as lingering dry and cold air will see a string of sub-zero mornings over the weekend and into next week.
Today temperatures are hovering around minus 1 degree and combined with strong winds the wind-chill has dived to minus 13, so plenty of wintry layers required today.
The countdown is on to the season opening weekend, only 30 days to kick off. With fresh snow on the ground, snowmaking set to fire and a huge line-up of entertainment and activities – it is sure to be a huge opening weekend in Thredbo.
