Weekly Wrap: Over 70cm & 400 Olympic Gold Medalists
Posted on 14 Jul, 2019
The Polar Express was full steam ahead this week, with that stormy system bringing massive snowfalls over 70cm across the mountain.
Temperatures took a dive, giving our mountain crew the perfect opportunity to fire up those snow machines, topping up that fresh snow and giving riders the ultimate pow experience.
Thanks to those massive dumps we were able to open more terrain, particularly the off-piste trails, Bushrangers and the Powder bowl, with riders treated to a heap of freshies.
The good news kept coming all week, with the opening of Anton’s T-bar today, giving skiers and snowboarders a chance to explore even more terrain.
The village was looking like a winter wonderland, with fresh snow blanketing the streets in white.
There was no shortage of stoke and good vibes, with crowds building snowmen, indulging in hot chocolates and in true winter style having a few snow ball fights.
Kids holidays were also in full swing this week, with groms carving up the mountain and getting involved in a tonne of free activities, including family fun nights, face painting and a whole lot of smores.
Sunday brought even more fun for those little shredders, with Torah Bright’s Mini Shred. Kids of all shapes and sizes jibbed and jumped their way through their own mini terrain park, with the help of mentor and Olympian Torah Bright. Thanks to the guidance of many other Aussie snow stars, the kids were definitely spoilt, with tips, guidance and a even a free signing.
The fun didn’t stop on the mountain, with the Mumm Après Sessions ft. Sweet Mix Kids, at The Alpine Bar at The Thredbo Alpine Hotel. After a long day carving up the mountain, crowds headed straight to the bar to unwind by the fire pits, indulge in some champagne and have a little boogie to the groovy tunes of New Zealand’s best Après band.
As always, it was another banger week in Thredbo.
