Track Report by Rachael Schultz | Guest Services Outdoor Operations Manager
Summer is upon us and it’s time to left foot, right foot around the mountains! All tracks in the Thredbo area are clear of snow. The days are getting warmer and we couldn’t be more excited to see the wildflowers have their moment in the spotlight!
THREDBO TO MT KOSCIUSZKO LOOKOUT
As you walk from Thredbo, amongst the bogs and fens, the rainbow of heaths are getting ready to bloom. Keep a close eye on the clear pools of water and you might just see some tadpoles! These are the Common Eastern Froglets maturing before the drier months begin.
Felted Buttercups are still out and about showing off their glossy yellow petals.
RAWSON PASS TO MT KOSCIUSZKO SUMMIT
The snowdrifts have receded to expose a narrow section of the track past Rawson Pass, please consider two-way traffic in this area. Anemone Buttercups have begun to bloom on the last ascent towards the summit. This standout endemic species was close to extinction due to grazing but has since recovered at the Kosciuszko National Park. The views from Mt Kosciuszko summit are ever changing with blues and blooms. Of course, it’s always best to experience it for yourself!
DEAD HORSE GAP HIKE & THREDBO RIVER TRACK
Dead Horse Gap is clear of all snow but some areas remain wet. Boggy areas require caution along the Thredbo River. Dusty Daisy-bushes, Mountain Hovea and Leafy Bossiaea are in bloom once you reach the tree line, making the return walk to Thredbo a colourful one! Other Thredbo valley tracks are yet to open as trail maintenance continues, check out the latest lift and trail status here.
We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them their cultures, and elders past, present and future.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
