That’s all folks… Chainless Champs Wraps up 30 Years of Gravity
Posted on 3 May, 2021 in Biking
Probably a chain reaction to the sunshine, insane competitor energy and mountainous line-up of events but this weekend’s MTB Park Closing Weekend celebrations were a vibe.
Thredbo was the place to be this weekend with 30 Years of Gravity finishing up with a banger of a weekend.
The trails were tacky, the live music was pumping, and when you chuck in crisp local brews at events like the Kosciuszko Craft Beer Dinner for good measure, Thredbo was seriously the place to be this weekend.
CHAINLESS CHAMPS WAS OFF THE CHAIN
Starting at Fly Over Bridge on the Kosciuszko Flow Trail, competitors ranging from Woopie Cushions to Ninja Turtles, flew down the trail – sans chains – in hopes of taking out the title in their category.
The true competition of the day though was the prestigious ‘Best Dressed’ and competitors brought their serious a-game. ‘Skinman’ took out the title for his head-to-toe bright-pink morph suit and stand-out Bonds briefs, taking home with him a brand new Fox Carbon Pro Frame helmet.
Following the winner announcements, many chose to continue the party in Thredbo Village., an ideal way to wrap an awesome summer series.
THREDBO GRAVITY SERIES
Celebrating 30 Years of Australia’s Premier Mountain Bike Park, The Thredbo Gravity Series presented by FOX & Kosciuszko Pale Ale was all about fun, pushing limits and beating mates through six rounds of racing.
This MTB season was aptly the biggest yet! Thredbo MTB Business Manager and true Thredbo MTB spokes-man, Tim Windshuttle is still buzzing from the series that was…
“30 Years of Gravity Closing Weekend was the perfect send off to Thredbo’s biggest ever year of Mountain Biking with record numbers, rad trails & plenty of stoke! The weather & trail conditions were flawless for the final event of the Gravity Series with over 200 racers having a crack in fancy dress for the unique Chainless Champs event. A big thanks to all competitors who brought some serious fun on Sunday and to everyone who came to Thredbo this weekend and all season long for keeping the vibes high. Looking into next season, we have some exciting things on the cards with new trails & the return of some of Australia’s biggest MTB events…we can’t wait!”
Sian Ahern and Thomas Crimmins took out the seasons’ overall champs, securing first place in Open Women/Men from points over the six main gravity trail events; Snowgums Sprint, Ricochet Rumble, Pump Track, Friday Flat Fury, Supertrail Scramble and Chainless Champs. Madeline Lloyd and Aiden Segeri took out the youngest category for the U13 overall champs.
Speaking of the Series, Sian Ahern said after her win, “I’m pretty stoked! It was such as awesome season with such great tracks. I think it takes a big team behind everything to make a big event happen… everyone did such a great job. It was great to see it packed with girls and so many racers having a go.”
