That’s a wrap on Winter for 2022! What an incredible season.
From world-class snow conditions to hosting our biggest ever events calendar, keep scrolling as we reflect on some of the many highlights…
An Opening Weekend For The Books
Winter kicked off with a bang! Excitement was running high in the lead-up to opening weekend and it didn’t disappoint. Thanks to a massive 125cm snowfall in the lead-up and a massive line-up of events, Thredbo celebrated one of its best-ever starts to the snow season. Officially opening to skiers and snowboarders on Saturday 11 June, guests enjoyed exploring the best of Thredbo’s terrain from day one. From experiencing incredible early season snow conditions to riding with Thredbo’s Olympic Ambassadors, celebrating with the iconic G.H. Mumm Long Lunch and dancing the night away at Heineken Saturday, it was an absolute vibe.
#KidsRunThredbo
A favourite of all ages, Thredbo’s Kids Snow Festivals were the place to be for families during the July and September school holidays. It’s safe to say that kids ran the mountain, learning to ski or snowboard at Thredboland and enjoying adult-free movie nights, flare runs, fireworks, Lindt chocolate smores and more. Plus, they looked pretty cute while doing it!
Next Level Après
We took après to the next level this winter with non-stop live music and entertainment that rivalled the international scene. From First Base presented by Canadian Club to Heineken Saturday and countless events in-between, the people of Thredbo were ready to party with record numbers coming along to celebrate. After a big day on the slopes, guests enjoyed dancing underneath the fireworks to some of the country’s hottest acts with the likes of The Jungle Giants, Stace Cadet, Set Mo, Daft Punk Tribute and Poof Doof.
A Showcase Of Speed And Skill
Thredbo’s huge range of on-snow events were back and bigger than ever this year and the competition was at an all time high! The calendar featured events for every discipline, age and ability, with Torah Bright’s Mini Shred proving to be a hit among the kids once again, high-energy snowboarding action on display at the 8th Annual Transfer Banked Slalom and the first ever Bush Doof presented by Monster Energy as well as an incredible showcase of skill and speed at the five-part Snow Series.
On-Mountain Experiences Like No Other
Thredbo continued to provide it’s premier experiences this winter with a series of unique adventures that elevate a Thredbo visit to new heights. Now cemented as Australia’s most iconic on-snow experience, Sunrise Sessions presented by Land Rover were extremely popular again, with guests enjoying sunrise at Australia’s Highest Lifted Point, an on-mountain breakfast with a G.H. Mumm mimosa and first tracks down Supertrail. Other on-mountain highlights included a wide variety of backcountry tours and on-mountain dining experiences with a series of Kareela Supper Club and Kareela Snowcat Dinners presented by G.H. Mumm and Merritts Mountain House Feasts.
World-Class Snow Conditions
This winter’s snow conditions were consistent from the start, with snowfall top ups keeping the snowpack in great shape throughout June and July. Mother Nature really ramped things up in August with powder days and snowfall all the way down to the village, ensuring a strong base when September arrived. Snowy Hydro’s snow depth measurements were a testament to this winter’s strong snow conditions, with Spencers Creek reading the highest snow depth for September since 2017. Special mention must go to our incredible grooming and snowmaking teams who worked their magic every night, ensuring the runs were freshly groomed and topped up before skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes each day.
That's A Wrap!
The season was sent off in style! Dressed to the nines, skiers and snowboarders took to the water at the hilarious Thredbo Pondskim and then celebrated with a Spring Fling at Merritts Mountain House.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this season what it was… See you next winter!
