Unwind In The Snowy Mountains

Posted on 9 Mar, 2022

Breathe in… breathe out. It was a weekend full of pure bliss for the lucky guests who joined one of Thredbo’s Yoga and Wellness Retreats. The retreat aimed to refresh and reconnect the guests with nature… after three days of sunrises, yoga and hiking, it did just that.

It was the second Yoga and Wellness retreat of the summer, with the final one planned for this weekend. Each experience is run by Jane Corben from the Jindabyne Yoga Shala who is a highly regarded instructor with 40 years of experience. The all-inclusive retreat offers a truly unique schedule of activities for all levels of yoga practice in the heart of Australia’s highest mountains.

From the moment you arrive and check in to the Thredbo Alpine Hotel you are in for a treat. After enjoying a lovely welcome dinner, awaken the next morning at dawn to partake in a yoga experience like no other. Soak in the majestic sunrise and striking mountain views from the rooftop of Australia. Once the sun has peaked over the horizon the yoga session begins as the warm morning sunshine envelops the mountains. It truly is an unforgettable experience for all.

After a hot tea, healthy breakfast and a little bit of warming up, head out into the mountains on a guided hike to the roof of Australia. Thredbo’s local knowledge guides talk you through the majestic Main Range to the highest peak of Australia, pointing out rugged landmarks and unique alpine flora and fauna on the way.

Lunch is at Merrits Mountain House Restaurant at the top of the Merritts Gondola before an afternoon of more yoga and a much-needed meal at Cascades Restaurant.

Day two starts off with a yoga session at sunrise in the Townsend Room where Jane takes the group through some flow based movements to get the body energised for the day. After breakfast, you are joined again by one of Thredbo’s guides who take you out along one of the many walks within the resort, all of which offer incredible views and untouched nature.

After the walk, revitalise your mind and body by taking a dip in a cold pristine mountain rock pool. Jane will talk you through the benefits of the invigorating cold immersion session whilst offering deep breathing techniques throughout. The afternoon winds down with mediation and ayurvedic session in the Townsend room before tucking into another healthy dinner.

Before departing Thredbo on the final day join the rising of the sun one last time with a sunrise yoga session energising the body for the day, and putting into practice the weekend’s lessons.
