Thredbo’s Backcountry Head Guide Alex Parsons recounts the incredible Women’s Beyond Boundaries Tour that her team hosted on Sunday. Keep scrolling to hear how much fun these amazing ladies had in the backcountry!
On Sunday, the Women’s Beyond Boundaries tour went out with 6 female backcountry enthusiasts, two female Thredbo Backcountry Guides and Thredbo Ambassador Arkie Ellis.
With clear skies and powder snow, we headed out to the Ramshead range. Along the way, we discussed route finding, snow observations, prevailing winds and decision-making in the backcountry. We stopped beside Ramshead for a snack break and some of the most epic views of the Main Range. Then it was time to put on crampons and get some steep ascent practice in, powering up the side of the mountain until we were at 2190m, Australia’s 4th highest mountain!
After a transition to downhill riding mode, it was time to ride. The ladies all had fantastic technique and there was heaps of windblown snow to slash. After a few high fives, we hunted out some shelter for a lunch spot and chatted about how relaxed and fun it was to have a whole crew of women in the backcountry. It was such a supportive environment and the guides were so impressed with everyone’s capabilities. The ladies were absolute weapons!
After lunch, the wind was really starting to pick up so we made the call to find sheltered slopes with windblown powder and got another ride in towards Aries tors, while admiring views all the way to Mt Kosciuszko. We had another snack and a photo break beside Aries Tors, one of the most picturesque spots in the National Park. From there, we rode the side of Signature Hill back into the resort. The final run down Supertrail was a leg burner after such a big day but we ripped it up and met at the bottom for final chats, good vibes and farewells.
It was easily one of the best backcountry days of the season. Clear skies, awesome snow and great company. The women who came are so inspiring and it was a real privilege to guide them and help them on their journeys! I can’t wait for next year.
