A Full Circle Moment: Charles Beckinsale Brings Stomping Grounds To Thredbo
Posted on 20 Sep, 2023 in Thredbo Parks
This winter, we teamed up with world-renowned parks builder Charles Beckinsale to bring the Stomping Grounds Project to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time.
The Stomping Grounds Project was founded and directed by Charles in 2016 at Saas-Fee in Switzerland. It offers elite snowboard training sessions which sees the world’s best come from around the globe to train on Charles’ jumps.
This winter, Charles made Stomping Grounds a year-round endeavor, building a 65-foot jump in Thredbo during the Southern Hemisphere season.
The jump drew in a huge number of the world’s best riders to train in Thredbo this winter including Mark McMorris, Anna Gasser and Clemens Millauer as well as the national teams from the United States, Canada, Austria, Japan, China and Australia.
In addition to the jump, Charles played a massive role in taking the entire Thredbo Parks offering to the next level this winter. One fun idea saw Charles bring back picnic benches, a nostalgic feature from his early days of snowboarding in Australia.

Thredbo also worked with Charles to design and build a 13 foot Mini-Pipe. The only half-pipe in Australia this winter, we had the likes of Valentino Guseli and Scotty James hitting it as well as lots of stoked guests keen to shred.

With Charles’ expertise, the course for the 2nd Annual Tess Coady Bush Doof presented by Monster Energy was undisputedly insane. Over 50 of the world’s best riders came to compete in the rail jam and were faced with a huge unique set-up of jumps, rails and features.
Thredbo truly was the home of action wintersports in Australia this year. A massive shoutout to Charles and the entire Thredbo Parks team for taking it to the next level.
