That’s A Wrap On Winter 2024! Looking Back At The Best Moments

Posted on 11 Sep, 2024 in On the Slopes

While the season may have finished earlier than we’d hoped, the highs were HIGH this season!

Join us as we look back on some of the best moments from winter 2024…

Winter 2024 kicked off with a bang!

On opening weekend, we launched the Southern Hemisphere’s first-ever Alpine Coaster and boy, was it a hit.

We knew you were all going to love the Alpine Coaster but we couldn’t have predicted just how popular it would really be. We maxed out daily riders scans on multiple days this winter and lots of you came back to ride it over and over again!

The best news? It’s open 365 days a year so you can get your coaster fix this summer too.

Mother Nature was a tiny bit late to the party for Opening Weekend! While we only had Friday Flat open for skiing and snowboarding on day one, the party went off with non-stop celebrations all long weekend.

Never fear! The cold temperatures and snowfall arrived just days after Opening Weekend and the mountain was transformed into a white winter wonderland in no time.

The freezing temps allowed us to fire up our snowmaking operations every night and suddenly… HIGH NOON WAS OPEN!

This banger of a tune has been in our heads ever since.

Then things got really spicy when we opened Supertrail…

Rumor has it that our staff are still hoping for an invite to next year’s Logies for this one.

The snow gods really took it to another level in July! One morning we even woke up to 27cm of fresh snow.

Powder conditions activated. All up, our biggest storm in July delivered a massive 59cm dump.

With all resort areas now open, there was so much terrain to choose from. Shredders paradise!

Finding true love on the slopes? Must mean Antons T-bar was open too…

After the big July storms, the sun came out but the freezing temperatures stuck around. The PERFECT COMBO! The subzero conditions meant we could do massive amounts of snowmaking every night, creating the perfect days to follow.

In true Thredbo style, the good times didn’t stop on the mountain either. With two new events added, we hosted nine straight weekends of our famous après parties this winter!

You all seriously know how to have fun because every. single. one. WENT OFF!

Peking Duk presented by Canadian Club was the record-breaker though with our highest number of attendees ever!

No words for that one. It was wild.

Special mention must go to our Rainbow Mountain Festival. There’s just something about this colourful and glittery weekend of celebrating love and community that is so special.

If you’re yet to experience the rainbow magic, then we’ll see you next year!

For families, the Kids Snow Festival during school holidays was filled with special memory making moments! Watching the kids play in the snow, dance their hearts out at their very own concert, make s’mores, ski down Friday Flat with their own special LED flares and marvel at the fireworks will always be the cutest thing.

From the end of July to late August, it was non-stop bluebird days and insane groomer conditions! Everyone was absolutely LOVING IT.

Some locals even went as far as to say that the first two weeks of August were the best skiing and snowboarding conditions they’ve experienced in 10 years.

This winter, we elevated our action sports offering and facilities to another stratosphere, building a new 22ft halfpipe, a new 13ft mini pipe, a 65ft jump, and hosting a new event to support the future stars of the sport.

Together with the Stomping Grounds Project, we did the damn thing and built Australia’s only 22ft Superpipe in August.

Supporting athlete developing ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, the new 22ft Halfpipe and a 65ft jump were part of a world-class training facility that enabled athletes like Scotty James to train for the Olympics right here in Australia.

Our new ambassador Scotty James generously donated a mini pipe cutter to us ahead of this winter, enabling us to build the all-new 13ft MOOKi’s Mini Pipe in the Cruiser area for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

The good news is we’ve got the mini pipe cutter for years to come so MOOKi’s Mini Pipe will be returning next season. Thank you Scotty!

To support the development of the next generation of Australian athletes, we teamed up with Scotty to joined forces to host the first-ever MOOKi’s Mini Pipe Cup event on August 18! A free new skiing and snowboarding event, this sold-out day provided 150 kids the opportunity to spend the day riding with Scotty in the newly built MOOKi’s Mini Pipe.

On the day, Scotty awarded a new MOOKi’s Mission Grant to two young riders who exhibited remarkable effort and passion. Aiming to support their future careers, the massive prizes included $1,250 cash and a 2025 Thredbo Season Pass.

Unfortunately, the weather and snow conditions became very challenging come September. While we may have closed earlier than we were hoping to, there were still so many incredible moments to celebrate this season!

A massive thank you must go to our incredible staff and guests for keeping the dream alive with us this winter. Our people truly are what makes this place so special!

We have been nominated for Australia’s Best Ski Resort in the 2024 World Ski Awards™. If you enjoyed some great times with us this winter, we invite you to vote for Thredbo!
