Things We Recycle

Thredbo recycles metal, glass, plastic containers, paper and cardboard, organic food waste, batteries, e-waste, light globes, MTB tyres and more.

For more information on waste & recycling management and harmful waste management:

Organics Composting

Food organics, such as kitchen scraps and FOH leftovers, can be composted in Thredbo.

The organics wheelie bins are maroon in colour and are labelled accordingly, they contain a false bottom to allow safe lifting of waste by the Environmental Services personnel, please do not remove the insert. Some properties may have smaller food organics buckets that are also labelled; these will be collected and replaced with empty ones.

To find out what can and cannot be put in the organics composting bins, please refer to the guide: Organic Recycling Guide

Not all properties have access to organics bins at present. If you’d like access or to know more about the scheme, please call Environmental Services on 6459 4100.

Other Wastes

Disposal of hard waste (e.g. broken beds, televisions, fridges etc.) is the responsibility of individual property owners. All hard waste must be removed from Kosciuszko National Park and disposed of in a legal and appropriate manner at the owner’s expense.

Help Up Reduce Waste-To-Landfill

As a village, Thredbo is aiming to reduce village waste to landfill by 30% by 2030, when compared to 2023 levels. Collectively in 2023/2024, we reduced our waste-to-landfill by 12% over the 2023 levels. We’re on a good trajectory but we’re constantly looking for new ways to divert even more of our waste so please help us help the local environment by separating and disposing of waste thoughtfully.

The Environmental Services department is also responsible for snow clearing and during extreme weather events there may be a collection delay.

General waste should be secured in plastic waste bags weighing no more than 10 kg. Loose waste in the enclosures will not be collected. It is the property owners’ or managers’ responsibility to keep the waste enclosure in a clean and serviceable state.
